a note from Amman

I have been in Amman for 3 days now, the plane ride was shared with a motley crue of American business men and American soldiers and American mercenaries all on their way to Iraq to make some money and do other things we would rather pretend not to know about, right?

I am amazed by how much the land is seeped with history. Although Amman itself is only a bit more than 50 years old, the land is ancient, and there is so much here that is of significance for the three major monotheistic religions. As a Muslim, I see signs of cities and remember important battles against the Crusaders. I have also realized how many Sahaba, or Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) are buried in Jordan. I hope to do some real touring of these places God willing when i get some time in the next few days.

Besides that just taking in all the blessing and beauty of this place and eating a lot of good hummus. Not a real staple in North Africa, so i better get it while I can. I am also interested in taking a visit to the Super Safeway supermarket here in Amman I hear you can get things like tortillas and other great North American products. Interesting that i have traveled farther away from America but closer to it somehow.
